The word hypocrite comes from the Greek world of theatre; hypocrites were actors who commonly wore masks to show which characters they were playing.  By extension, the word came to refer to people who falsely play a role.  To counter this unwanted practice, James dedicated an entire letter outlining the types of behaviour that prove a believer’s faith claims.  If you profess Christ as Lord, you need to prove it!  So plan to prove it, and not ‘mask’ it!
